BEDMINSTER, N.J., Jan. 30, 2006 – Continuing
a tradition of excellence under the Trump Golf Properties brand,
a second course at Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster will
begin construction this spring.
The 18-hole course will be
designed and built by Tom Fazio II, who has worked closely
with Donald Trump as his in-house
golf course designer/builder for almost a decade. Tom is the
son of acclaimed architect Jim Fazio and the nephew of fellow
golf course design luminary Tom Fazio. His company, Tom Fazio
II Golf Design LLC, will also be the contractor.
The course,
for which all municipal permits are in place, is scheduled
to open in spring 2008 and will be the perfect complement
to the award-winning, internationally recognized private layout
at Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster, which was designed
by Tom Fazio and opened in 2004. The new layout will be par
72, approximately 7,400 yards and will follow a similar design
as the existing layout, according to Tom Fazio II. It will
be carved into a 240-acre parcel of the property, which is
506 acres in total.
“The natural terrain and topography
should lend itself toward a spectacular and dramatic golf venue,” Fazio
said. He plans to have more water come into play than on the
original
course and also feature more elevation changes.
“We are going to design this one a little
differently,” Fazio
said, “but we will still maintain the design principles
of the Fazio tradition. Foremost is that the golf course is
in harmony with nature.”
The original course at Trump
National, Bedminster, is ranked No. 48 in the United States
and No. 87 in the world by GOLF
Magazine. Trump International, West Palm Beach, a Jim Fazio
design that opened five years ago, is ranked No. 73 in the
U.S. Two other domestic golf courses in the Trump portfolio
-- Trump National Golf Club, Westchester and Trump National
Golf Club, Los Angeles -- have also received acclaim, as has
Trump International Golf Club in Canouan Island, The Grenadines.
Plans are underway also for a Trump Golf course in northeast
Scotland.
Tom Fazio II has been praised for his work
on designs like Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla.,
and Great
River
Golf Club in Milford, Conn. He also did extensive work on his
father’s design at Trump National, Westchester.
Over the
years Tom Fazio II has developed a feel for Trump’s
commitment to building world-class golf courses and will continue
the tradition with the second course at Trump National, Bedminster.
“Working with him in the past has given me a good feel for what
he likes,” Fazio said. “He is the most detailed
person I’ve ever met and he sees things that people don’t
normally see. Like his real estate ventures, his golf courses
and construction are done with excellence.”
